Music
Courses
Basically anything involving music at Glebe counts towards a credit, including the ensembles that practice outside of regular class hours. For information on a specific class please click on its course code or name in the list below. Note that the 'x' in the course code refers to grade level (1 through 4) and that the O becomes an M for grades eleven and twelve.
NOTE: On the 2006 option sheet, the instrumental music course is listed as AMIxO instead of AMUxO. This is a mistake, but signing up for AMIxO will get you the AMUxO credit.
Instrumental music - band (AMUxO)
This course is your typical music class -- it runs during regular class hours and teaches how to play band instruments (i.e. no strings, vocal, or keyboards), and music theory. No prior music experience is needed for this class although it obviously helps, especially in the higher grades.
Music - Vocal/Choral (AMVxO)
This class is the equivalent of instrumental music - band for vocal music. It runs during regular class hours and does not require previous singing experience.
Music - Choir (AMRxO(7))
Details concerning Glebe's choirs can be found here. Being in any of the choirs can get you the credit for this course; being in multiple choirs does not give you multiple credits. Even if you didn't sign up for choir on your option sheet you can still join by going to any choir practice (you'll also need to add it to your timetable, but you can get more details if you just show up to a practice). It's also possible to be in choir without taking it as a course, if you choose to do so.
Music - Band (AMRxO)
If you are in junior, intermediate, or senior band, you are taking this course. Note that jazz band has a separate credit (AMHxO). Even if you haven't signed up for band on your option sheet you can still join by going to the practices. Information on all of Glebe's bands can be found here.
Music - Keyboard (AMKxO)
This class is the equivalent of instrumental music - band for vocal music. It runs during regular class hours and does not require previous music experience.
Music - Stage Band (AMHxO)
Not to be confused with junior/senior band, stage band plays jazz and is an entirely separate credit. It is possible to be in both junior/senior band and stage band, as their schedules never overlap. Prior music experience is generally required in stage ban, although no formal audition is usually held. Information on all of Glebe's bands can be found here.
Music - Percussion (AMPxO)
Yes, this percussion course actually refers to Offbeat and you do need to audition to get in.
Music - Guitar (AMG2O)
Formerly known as guitar club, Glebe's guitar course is taught by Mr. Nesrallah and is available both on the regular timetable and off it (ie. at lunch and before school).
