Post-secondary Application Process College and university applicants are now awaiting offers from their institutions of choice. Final first semester marks were sent to colleges and universities on February 5 and conditional admission offers for universities will be arriving on an ongoing basis, most by mid-May. College offers will be received on an ongoing basis. Students should check their academic information on the Ontario University Application Centre (OUAC) and Ontario College Application Service (OCAS) web sites to make certain that their course information is current and accurate.

Financial Aid Financial aid is available to most post-secondary programs either at university or at college. Most admissions scholarships will be automatic and will be issued with or shortly after the conditional offer of admission. There are several specific scholarships and awards given for particular criteria. The two web sites that will address your particular qualifications are found at www.scholarshipscanada.com and www.studentawards.com.
Ontario Student Awards Program (OSAP) is the government funded financial support program and will be available for application in late March or April of the year of admission. You will find the online application at www.osap.gov.on.ca.
Gap Year and Deferral of Admission Students who would like to take a gap year may want to peruse the list of possible choices in the Guidance area. These include programs like Katimavik and Canada World Youth. See the Glebe Collegiate web site at www.glebeci.ca. This is a good choice for students who take the full year or the second semester off before attending a post-secondary institution.
For deferral of admission, please consult the specific university for information on their deferral process. Most universities will consider the request if there is a valid reason such as travel, acceptance to a program of personal enrichment or medical reasons. You should accept the current offer, then write a letter of request to the registrar’s office of the university. |
