The Department of English and English as a Second Language (ESL) has a strong tradition of excellence at Glebe Collegiate Institute. The variety of talented English teachers in the department create a welcoming learning environment where students are taught to see the benefit in reading, to be effective writers, and how to think critically about issues affecting society daily. The wide range of fiction, non-fiction, drama, poetry, and media resources available allow for each teacher to teach what he or she is passionate about and for students to be able to find texts and subject matter that resonate with them.
